Pedagogic Innovations: S.P. Jain
Diversity of Pedagogy
S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) is a constituent unit of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, which was founded in 1938. Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan is registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 and the Bombay Public Trust Act 1950. It is a trust of repute and eminence and is universally recognized for its educational as well as cultural activities.
The pedagogy is a mix of lectures, classroom discussions, peer learning, case studies, simulations, project work, group studies, field-work, internships, mid-term assessments and comprehensive examinations and participation in national and international events and competitions. Various case studies from the best business schools like Harvard are taken up for discussions in the class. The integration across functional areas leads to a participant becoming proficient in not only his/her specialization area but also other areas catering to business decision making. Evaluation is continuous and spread throughout the course delivery.
The choice of pedagogic innovations at SPJIMR is based on the following three propositions:
The learning experience must result in the enhancement of the capabilities of the individual for actual practice.
Professional life cannot be devoid of values and social responsiveness
The knowledge-seeker must own up the process of education and must accept responsibility for professional growth and development
