MIET Group of Institutions: The Embodiment of Excellence
Vishnu Saran , Chairman MIET Group of Institutions
About 65 km from Delhi, Meerut, the second largest city in the NCR region, has seen a great transformation in the recent past. With various ongoing developments in the infrastructure, education, commercial and IT sectors, Meerut is gaining more colors, apart from being known as the largest producer of handloom work, scissors, sports goods and musical instruments. Now, in the western Uttar Pradesh, Meerut holds the distinction of being the largest hub of education with institutes like engineering, medical, management, pharmacy colleges and many more. City Educational and Social Welfare Society, which was established in 1989 by Late Chandra Sen Agarwal, has played an important role in the process of gaining this new stature for Meerut.
"The society was the results of initiatives taken by Late Chandra Sen Agarwal who was a great educationist and spent all his life towards the cause of education. Like-minded philanthropists of this region joined hands with him and took upon social causes, and established vocational schools to train the technical workers," says Vishnu Saran, Chairman, MIET Group of Institutions. The first establishment of City Educational and Social Welfare Society was a vocational training school (10 + 2), which materialized the growing need for education for the young generation in the western part of Uttar Pradesh. Saran adds, "He (Late Chandra Sen Agarwal)was far-sighted and could foresee the need of young men and women to be trained for industrialized India under the shadows of Globalization of trade and established Meerut Institute of Engineering & Technology at Meerut in 1997."
At present, the institutions under the umbrella of MIET Group are flourishing with the leadership of Saran, a great visionary who is carrying on the dream philanthropic project nurtured by his father, the Founder-Chairman of MIET Group, Late Chandra Sen Agarwal. In fact, the promoters of the society have good resources, excellent social status, and goodwill in the city and nearby areas. They are very well conversant with the requirements of an educational organization and their associates have expertise in the management of the Schools. The Institutes run by the society are running different technical courses such as MBA, PGDM, MCA, M. Tech. in Biotechnology, Computer Science & Engg. and Digital Communications, M. Pharm. In Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutics and Pharmacology, B. Tech. in Biotechnology, Chemical Engg., Computer Science & Engg., Civil Engg., Electronics & Communication Engg., Electronics & Instrumentation Engg., Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Mechanical Engg., and B. Pharm.

Meerut Institute of Engineering & Technology
The flagship Institute of the group, Meerut Institute of Engineering & Technology (MIET) is renowned for its academic environment, extensive Alumni network in over 200 companies, excellent placements, interface with Industry and numerous extra-curricular activities. "Excellence and values are our guiding principles, which are reflected in every activity of the institute. For last 28 years, we have set unparalleled benchmarks and consistently won Excellence Awards from the University," says Dr. Mayank Garg, Executive Director, Meerut Institute of Engineering & Technology. As we live in a dynamic world that needs ability to adapt, MIET has placed due emphasis on exposing the students to real life situations of the industry and facilitated interaction with the best minds in the industry.
"I can proudly place it on record that we are among the very few Institutes in the region who can claim to have their grasp on the pulse of the industry as we have at MIET Group of Institutions," claims Dr. Garg. Research and innovation are the core pedagogy of the much-hailed MIET curriculum. Dr. Garg elaborates, "A researcher needs resources, data, and innovative technologies to support his ideas and enhance his qualitative assertions. The entire world is a classroom now, and we will make sure that our students are able to interact and access information from the very best in the world."
To provide necessary impetus to the innovative and entrepreneurial vision of the students, MIET were the first in the region to have come up with dynamic Incubation Forum. "We have established a Business Incubator with facilities to nurture ideas which have commercial viability. We are also the approved Host Institution from Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, which allows our students to get funds from the government agencies," pinpoints Dr. Garg. The institute also has an Entrepreneurship Development Cell, which organizes different programs like Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp, Guest Lectures, Workshops and Business Plan Competitions throughout the year. Over the years, quite a few alumni of MIET have started their own ventures and they are now the successful entrepreneurs. At present some of the successful startups at MIET are; MyShikshak.com, MIC Lab, RootsApp and Zap Solutions.
"What's next is what we strive for. Rather waiting for the world of technology to surprise us, we aim to surprise our own ambitions. Our student's outstanding performance in Hackathons, National EcoKart Championship and now MIET SAT that is one of its kind labs where students are working to contribute in India's space research programs," summarizes Dr. Garg.
Dr. Mayank Garg, Executive Director
Dr. Mayank Garg has done his graduation in Mechanical Engineering from Nagpur University, Nagpur and did his M.E. and Ph. D. from IIT Roorkee, Roorkee formerly University of Roorkee. He received University Medal in M.E. degree program for standing first class with distinction. Meerut Institute of Technology
Most of the surveys on the employability of Indian student have stated that the engineering graduates coming out of colleges generally fall short of industry expectations in possession of necessary skills. However, Dr. Sanjeev Maheshwari, Director of Meerut Institute of Technology has a different take on it. He says, "That is a fallacy. Yes, due to mushrooming of engineering colleges in recent years has made a serious dent into the credibility and employability of students, but that is due to lack of intellectual and infrastructural inabilities." In fact, the recent placement record of MIETians will show that Dr. Maheshwari is not wrong. The placements for the batch graduating in 2017-2018 remain unmatched with Wipro recruiting 54 MIETians, TCS taking 34 MIETians and IBM picking up 11 MIETians. Samsung, Axis Bank, Berger Paint, Just Dial and many more companies lead a list of over 140 companies that visited the campuses of MIET Group for placements in various Engineering, Management, Pharmacy and Computer Application fields.
"We at MIT are dedicated to adopting innovative methods of teaching to better the assimilation of students. Our efforts are designed to articulate various facets that will ensure an enviable state of alertness and confidence in our students through sequential and progressive learning. Excellence at MIT is a daily habit," states Dr. Maheshwari. Not many institutions can boast of as many industry engagement programs as MIT have. "We have tie-ups with SAP, Adobe, Salesforce, RedHat, Amazon, Festo, Bosch, EYantra, SIEMENS, Wipro, Texas Instruments to name a few. The in-house labs of global giants prepare our students from day one to excel in the blue-chip companies," explains Dr. Maheshwari.
MIT was founded in 2007 under another charitable trust Vishnu Education Foundation, which has stemmed out from the prestigious The City Educational & Social Welfare Society. The institutes gained a reputation in the very short span of time and received UPTU Excellence Award in 2008 and 2009 from Gautam Buddh Technical University, Lucknow. Having over 25 years of vast teaching experience, Dr. Maheshwari is highly ambitious about the future of MIT. He says, "I want MIT to not only be equipped with state-of-the-art infra and knowledge resources but also be the center of creative and critical thinkers. Let me paraphrase by quoting Bakhtawar Krishnan's article, 'Time is to produce professionally qualified individuals who will change addicts preferring horizontal growth and experiences over vertical and hierarchical opportunities.'"
Indeed, a leader is someone who not only listens and learns but pre-empts and is proactive. Dr. Maheshwari is an excellent administrator, eminent academician and above all a true humanitarian. "I read somewhere about 'Constructive Irreverence', I echo that there should be an environment of debate and dialogue. I aim to create an atmosphere of collective learning at MIT. When you look around, it is imperative to understand the importance of Artificial Intelligence in the years ahead. So, my vision is to be the Institution that understands and appreciate this change," concludes Dr. Maheshwari.
Dr. Sanjeev Maheshwari, Director
Before getting his Ph.D., Dr. Maheshwari received his M.E degree in Electronics from GovernmentCollege of Engineering, Aurangabad and B.E degree from Shivaji university in 1988.
