Malla Reddy Engineering College has one of the best career development cells in Hyderabad through which they produce professionals who are not only skilled but also hold values.
The annual fest Akshara is a big event in Malla Reddy Engineering College and the entire event is managed by the students, staring from sponsorship to the choice of delegates. By giving them responsibilities, the institution prepares students for their careers in a way that no subject in a class will. “Two days before our fest, our sponsors backed out at the last moment and left us with no funding. That was when we learned about crisis management, we mustered up the courage and started all over again with the sponsorship hunt and in the end we were funded by Sahara group of Industries,” recounts Abhinav Sharma, ex student’s representative, event management team, Malla Reddy Engineering College.
Oxford Dictionary defines career as a person's course or progress through life, there are some mediating factors that has an influential role to play in a person’s career. One of the most important factors is the education one receives. Malla Reddy Engineering College (MREC) understands the importance of their role in a student’s career and for the same reason has set up a career development cell. Three hours are allocated for several practical skill enhancement programs from the daily hours; these hours are utilized in equipping the students with several skills, starting from soft skills and personality development to technical skills.
Through collaborations with training institutes such as FACE (Focus academy for Career Enhancement), Oracle academy and IBM career education, the institute provides training to the students on several important aspects of their career. Unlike any other institution in Hyderabad, MREC provides employability skill enhancement programs to the students every day. These activities are not confined to the campus itself; students also participate in several other initiatives related to skill development outside the campus. “Recently we had a collaborative program with SAP for Telangana Government skill and knowledge development, for which 240 students of our institute were sent,” says Dr. S. Sudhakara Reddy, Principal, Malla Reddy Engineering College.
Once the students complete their trainings, they are sent for their compulsory internships where they are able to apply their knowledge of the training that they underwent and perform well. Most students are called back for jobs in the same companies because of their performance. Students from MREC are currently placed in companies such as IBM, Tech Mahindra and HP. The institution has been able to maintain a good placement record due to the excellent industry connections. Every department form the institution has a minimum of four MoUs for internships and trainings. The institute’s MoUs comprise of some of the biggest names in the industry such as SAP, Intel and NVIDIA.
The collaborations also lead to consultancy projects from the industry and research projects that are industry oriented. Currently there are ten UGC funded projects being carried out throughout the departments and two of the projects are in their completion stage. The institution has so far completed four consultancy projects through their Civil Engineering department. The faculty and the students collectively publish more than hundred papers every year in reputed national and international journals. Seminars, conferences and symposiums are a routine activity for the students and the faculty of Malla Reddy Engineering College. In 2015 alone, the institution organized 35 seminars and conferences on several important issues and trends of technical field.
In MREC, every aspect of a student’s life from career development to research has been orchestrated in order to provide them with the optimum learning experience. The curriculum of the institution is updated regularly with the help of the advisory board consisting of eminent industry experts and academic leaders. The institution has adopted the choice based credit system (CBCS) which allows students to select interdisciplinary subjects of their choice. This system enables the institution to provide the students with a world class education where a student can study two totally different subjects at the same time. Apart from the basic courses, MREC also provides certification courses in Yoga, NSS and Human values and ethics. NSS and Yoga has been made compulsory in the institution to ensure that the students are not only skilled but responsible citizens too. Social activities are made a regular part of the institutions’ routine. The students regularly participate in NSS and other social activities that are organized by the institution.
The events and the programs organized in MREC also includes workshops on entrepreneurship, these workshops are organized in order to encourage the students on turning their ideas and concepts into successful entrepreneurial ventures. With plans of setting up a state of the art incubation center, the institution strives on strengthening their merits and providing superior technical education to the students.
