In an era of smart creations and innovations, the art of architecture has taken a new mode by focusing on the critical design approach. With this increasing concern of rural and urban realm along with their blend of interest for innovative designs, there has been a quintessential need for skilled architects. Lovely School of Architecture and Design (LSAD), set up in 2004 works with an aim to mould potential planners, architects, interior and product designers who will capable of making a joyous place to dwell.

"We at LSAD focus on academic innovation in terms of the current challenges faced in built environments to futuristic learning's in the field," statesAr. Atul Kumar Singla, Dean, LSAD. Since the inception, the institute has explored pedagogies coherent to professional practice, be it Architecture, Design or Urban Planning. "We sensitize our students to build structures that will survive scenarios of climate change and global warming. Latest concepts such as water conservation, energy conservation, building assessment systems in terms of water balance, water footprint and carbon footprint are integrated in design studio exercises," adds Ar. Singla.

Since the inception, the institute has explored pedagogies coherent to professional practice, be it Architecture, Design or Urban Planning.

At LSAD, students experiment with various building techniques and materials such as brick, stone, mud, bamboo, metal waste, scrap and so on. Hands on workshop are organised in the experiential week to enhance the synthesis of the sheet and model work to actual site and practices. "Dedicated studio space for our graduate students helps to explore and experiment the emergent digital technologies. Extensive machine tools in carpentry and metal workshop along with a wide array of hand tools further incites exploration of designs via physical models," explainsAr. Singla. Ongoing construction, remodelling and renovation activities at the LPU campus further offer on site and off site exploration there by providing an impetus to design education.

Students are exposed to the updates of the profession via international conference's, guest lectures and workshops by eminent speakers from industry and academia such as Ar.Raj Rewal, Ar.S.D.Sharma, Prof. Dr. Mandeep Singh, Ar.Matthew Taylor,Prof. Dr. PSN Rao, Prof.Alok Ranjan, to name a few.Architectural Assistantship academics at LSAD is focussed at diploma graduate as an asset to an architect in practice with understanding and integrating architect's design concepts to a formal set of working drawings, details and physical model and so on. The institute has given due-focus on how to handle projects at site for pre-construction, during construction and post construction phases.

"We value diversity in the discipline of Architecture, thus we have faculty with expertise in Emergent Architecture, Architecture, Urban Design, Housing, Urban and Regional Planning, Environmental Planning, Industrial Area Planning, Product Design and so on. Transparency and system specific response are keys to our academic success," says Ar. Singla. The institute conducts Design studio jury by inviting esteemed professionals from industry and academia.Live sites are introduced for Design Studio Projects wherein students tend to explore morphology, climatology, aspects of services, legal frameworks (byelaws, master plan's application in architectural design), visit site and respective architect offices and many more.

"We tend to explore the application of theoretical concepts via analytical assignments and creative enhancement," opines Ar. Singla. Lateral thinking development is focused through regular pedagogical improvements. During the studio exercises of other practical subjects like graphics and workshop, the material play lets the students explore the nuances of composition and establish its design derivatives. In theory classes engaging in experiential learning help reinforce concepts and prompt research, which encourages the students to experiment with novelty in detailing of their projects.

LSAD Alumnus has proved to be an asset to top national design houses and multinational Companies such as CP Kukreja and Associates, Development Consortium, Morphogenesis, Atkins, Costford and so on."Our alumni members have reached IIT's, CEPT, SPA's, and international universities in Europe, Australia, Canada and the US for higher education and won accolades in their concerned fields. The School has engaged in annual study tour visits to various regions of India, Bhutan, and so onto conduct international Conference Niche IPM 2016 and Niche 2014, Workshop Symposium IDOT-2015, apart from the frequent visit of eminent professionals from industry and academia," claims Ar. Singla.

The LSAD aims to achieve a standing coherent to be a centre for excellence in design innovation and emergent technology. With this aim, the LSAD moves on imparting an architectural education, which parallels the global contemporaries.
