The Institute of Nursing Sciences is situated in the sprawling KLE University Campus in the city of Belagavi, Karnataka with a mission to promote sustainable development in the field of nursing education and research. KLE University's Institute of Nursing Sciences was established in the year 1987 focusing the goal of developing proficient and qualified nursing graduates. The Institute of Nursing Sciences currently runs Nurse Practitioner in Critical Care (NPCC) with an intake of 10 seats, M.Sc (Nursing) with an intake of 25 seats (5 seats in each specialty), B.Sc (Nursing) with an intake of 100 seats, P.B.B.Sc (Nursing) with an intake of 50 seats.
The Institute is recognized by apex bodies like Indian Nursing Council, Karnataka State Nursing Council, Govt. of Karnataka and University Grants Commission (UGC). The Institute is Re-accredited by NAAC 'A' grade in 2nd cycle and placed in category 'A' by MHRD. The Institute has collaboration with University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK to strengthen nursing education & research through a grant from British Council under the UK India Education Research Initiative (UKIERI). The grant was provided for Enhancing Midwifery and Neonatal Care through Capacity Building of Midwifery Lecturers. Students from School of Health Sciences, University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK regularly come here for elective placements in midwifery under this collaboration.

Institute boasts of some of the best facilities to promote comprehensive teaching and learning. The students get to utilize best of infrastructure and state of the art facilities like well equipped ventilated classrooms with LCD's. Students have access to the Library which has more than 9000 books and 14 journals along with Digital Library. The State of art Laboratories like Nursing Foundation lab with world class simulators and mannequins, Child Health Nursing Lab with NICU set up and models, Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBG) Nursing lab with advanced mannequins, OSCE/OSPE stations, Community Health Nursing Lab with models and village set up assist the students to gain practical knowledge and apply the skills in the clinical area.
The students gain rich clinical experience in the own parent hospital i.e. KLES Dr.Prabhakar Kore Hospital & MRC with 2400 bed strength and 256 ICU beds accredited with NABH safe I & NABL accredited laboratories, KLES Belgaum Cancer Hospital & KLES Centenary Charitable Hospital. They also get good exposure in Community Health Nursing Posting at three Primary Health Centres (Kinaye, Vantmuri & Handignur), two Urban Health Centres (Rukmini Nagar & Ashok Nagar) adopted by KLES Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belagavi.
"The faculties are often considered as the founding hands of the students' career and in this regards, our faculty members are entirely dedicated to benefit the students with expertise suggestions and knowledge every single day," mentions Prof. Dr. Sudha A Raddi. Most of the faculties hold experience of more than 10-15 years and always participate regularly in faculty development programs in order to keep them upgraded with the latest knowledge and skills.
The teaching learning process that has been adopted by the institute includes classroom presentations, clinical teaching near patient's bedside, demonstration and re-demonstration of basic and advanced nursing procedures, regular up gradation of First Aid, Basic life support and New born resuscitation skills, skills drills of obstetric emergencies and normal labor, case studies, research projects, educational and industrial tours and participation in seminars and conferences at state and national level, which provide ample exposure to students in academic, cultural, sports and NSS activities. These pursuits further prove to be an asset in their resume for future references. Moreover, in pursuance of eradicating the fear of facing placement process, the management takes various initiatives like grooming and training, training programmes for IELTS and competitive exams and so on.
With the aim of placing all the students in good organizations, the institute starts taking initiative for their placements from the very first year itself. The existence of active Placement and Career Guidance Cell further assist each and every student to fetch a decent job both in India and abroad. On the other hand, there are also students who have been capable to secure central government jobs with a handsome package over the years. "So far, we have been able to maintain 100 percent placement record, among which 10 percent of the students get the opportunity to join the parent hospital in the campus", saysProf. Dr. Raddi. Added to this, the active alumni cell of more than 10,000 graduates often delivers guest lectures, shares their experience in the real world and an applicable alumni website is also created establishing strong alumni network.
The placement cell consistently seeks to build communication and cordial relationship with the top recruiters and also occasionally invites them to visit the institute. "We maintain tie-ups with ace hospitals and healthcare organizations by conducting orientation programs. And through these activities the students gets adapted to the procedure of recruitment and respectively lands up with highly paid jobs," concludes Prof. Dr. Sudha Raddi. The institute hence, envisions undertaking more collaboration and developing e-learning modules and e-journals.

Prof. Dr. Sudha Raddi, the Principal and Dean of Institute of Nursing Sciences, Belagavi, completed her Bachelor's in nursing from College of Nursing,Armed Forces Medical College, Pune in 1992 and Master's in nursing from KLE Society's Institute of Nursing Sciences, Belagavi in 2000. She has done her M.Phil in nursing from Manipal University in 2006 and Ph.D from National consortium of Ph.D in Nursing in 2014.She has more than 23 years of teaching experience and 3 years of clinical experience in Military Nursing Services. Dr. Raddi has more than 18 International and 14 national publications in her name. She has visited countries like Sweden, South Africa, Dubai, Canada and Vietnam as Resource Person for Triennial Congress and Asia Pacific Conferences hosted by International Confederation of Midwives (ICM). She is the National Vice President of Society of Midwives India (SOMI) and State Vice President, North Karnataka for Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI).
