K Ramakrishnan College of Engineering: Achieving the Unbelievable

HER Team
Many people in the industry and the higher education domain believe that the technical institutes that have sprung up in the rural areas are short of good infrastructure and quality faculty members. Hence, they fail to churn out employable graduates. With quite a number of students from rural areas, K Ramakrishnan College of Engineering (KRCE) located in Samayapuram, a suburb of Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, proves that the education pundits can go wrong. The institute, in a short span time since its inception in 2008, has produced impeccable results in campus placements and academic excellence.

In the academic year 2016-17, students of KRCE have seen over 37 companies coming to the campus with more than 386 job offers and the numbers are still counting. The credit for this remarkable achievement goes to the Placement Cell of KRCE, which is providing countless opportunities for the young minds to sharpen their intellect and to mould soft skills through regular training programmes, interaction with leaders from industry and academia and industry interface through industrial visits and projects. Dr. D. Srinivasan, Principal, K Ramakrishnan College of Engineering takes pride saying, "We have been selected among the 12 institutes for a training program offered by Wipro. This has given a proud moment to consider ourselves lucky and proud at the same time to receive such an opportunity from a top notch company."

KRCE institute offers full fledged training programs from industry, value added courses such as learning PLPs, 3D printing, Java and organizes technical campaigns in the emerging areas. While, these value-added programs leverage the students with an added edge over other students in terms of expertise and skills, the institute gives special attention to the students who have difficulty in communication, aptitude and other soft skills. "We give special attention to the slow learners to improve their communication, writing skills and evaluate their performance periodically," adds Dr. Srinivasan.

Making use of the theoretical knowledge and skills attained, students of KRCE have exhibited a number of their own innovations in various events and competitions conducted by other institutes and organizations. "We encourage students to go for technical expo, presentation, conference and seminars. The number of accolades they received in the recent past shows that they have been successful in fabricating their knowledge and ideas for effective presentations," opines Dr. Srinivasan.

Today, KRCE not only focuses on building workforce for various industries. The institute has come up with an innovation lab where students can work on their ideas and convert them into successful companies. "We have taken entrepreneurship as a serious component in the technical education and we are in the process of collaborating with organizations that would help our students to become employers in the future," claims Dr. Srinivasan.

With conscious improvement of learning methods, KRCE students are familiarized with academic and non-academic activities. The institute ranks second with 91.29 pass percent among institutes affiliated under the Anna University. As they celebrate being the winners of the Zonal Athletic Meet for the fifth consecutive time, it is a mere formality to say that students of KRCE have always shown high spirits when it comes to the activities that happen outside the classrooms such as participating in environmental clubs, language club, fine arts, GoKarting and so on. Undoubtedly, KRCE is promoting to a new height of a holistic learning wherein more and more faculty and students can excel in the areas they wish to.
