JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysore, in its 44 years of journey since 1973, has always been committed itself to become a centre for excellence in pharmaceutical education and research and be a leader in the field of pharmaceutical sciences including pharmacy practice with the objective of strengthening the health care of the country. The institute has produced many eminent pharmacists. Dr.TM Pramod Kumar, Principal, JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysore says, "From government regulatory bodies to various pharmaceutical establishments, our alumni members can be seen everywhere. Many of them have started their own businesses and we get good support from them to groom our ongoing students, who come from all over the country as well as abroad."
At present, the institution offers B. Pharm, Pharm. D, Pharm. D (PB), M.Pharm in ten specializations and PhD. Postgraduate diploma and certificate courses are offered to the students as add-on to the regular programs.

JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysore is recognized by Government of Karnataka and approved by Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). As a renowned leader in pharmaceutical education, research and practice, the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), India, has recognized the college nationally and the institute's Pharm.D Program has been certified by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), USA, as a part of global recognition.
"We have our own standards and patterns for going ahead in teaching pharmacy. We extensively use technology in the teaching-leaning process," claims Dr. TM Pramod Kumar. The institute is dedicated to implement latest tools and techniques to deliver quality education. In this direction, they have implemented Learning Management system (LMS) to enable the students to be a part of the education process beyond the classrooms.
In the Wi-Fi enabled campus of JSS University, the college is housed with well equipped laboratories in basic sciences and pharmacy so that students can understand effectively, what they have learnt in the classrooms. The college machine room has various machines used in the pharmaceutical industries at different stages of production, quality control and packing. Tabletting machines, coating and polishing pans, bottle-filling machines, and Q. C. instruments like friability tester, DT and Dissolution test apparatus and deep freezer are the important ones, apart from other modern and sophisticated machines and instruments to update the facilities.
With adequate infrastructural facilities to conduct any modern pharmaceutical studies, JSS College of Pharmacy has given a lot of importance to the research. "Our M.Pharm and Ph.D. students are indulged in need oriented projects of national importance. Some of the areas include essential drugs, traditional medicine, pharmacokinetics, industrial pharmacy and so on. Staff and students are encouraged to present their research findings in seminars/conferences and publish the same in national and international journals. Several publications of the college have received the best article awards," explains Dr. TM Pramod Kumar.
Be it cutting-edge research, meaningful industry partnership or modern methods of teaching, JSS College of Pharmacy has taken many pioneering efforts in the field of pharmacy education. Now, the institute is planning something bigger and better. "By 2020, we will position ourselves as the SMART College of Pharmacy in the country," states Dr. Pramod Kumar. The 'SMART' is not an ordinary word for the JSS College. It means they would be developing and advancing Student quality, Motivation, Academic excellence, Research and innovation, and Technology. And, they would produce SMART Pharmacists who excel through, S - Skills that help achieve excellence, M - Motivation to do their best and emerge as leaders, A - Academic excellence that is exemplified, R - Research that is relevant, reproducible and realistic, T - Technology that integrates with their practice.
