Indus Business Academy: Creating Global Leaders
Industry-institute interaction has been found to be one of the key avenues of learning for management students where they are able to relate the concepts learnt inside the classroom with the experiences on-site. Indus Business Academy (IBA), established in 2001 by a group of IIT-IIM educated professionals, understands the importance of having strong corporate tie-ups and MoU's. "Our collaborations with associations such as DMA, AIMA, and CII allow us to provide the right guidance and exposure to our students," says BML Jain, Founder and Chairman, IBA.
"The Institute has a dedicated Corporate Relations Cell which interacts with the industry throughout the year through various activities such as HR Conclave, Women Entrepreneurship Conference, Workshops and Panel Discussions," he adds. The institute has strong advisory boards in place that boasts of names such as Dr. Gopal P. Mahapatra, Director- Training & O.D., Oracle India, Pawan Kumar, Ex- President, TATA-IBM and P. Thiruvengadam, Senior Director, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India. These individuals play key roles in assessing the design and amendment of the curriculum after immersive consultation with the faculty and alumni of the institute. Having senior members of the industry associated with the institute also opens up avenues for senior leaders from the industry engaging in interactive activities with the students of the institute.
The Chairman highlights that there are interactive sessions with industry leaders hosted at the institute every week; however, students at the institute enjoy another key advantage of studying at IBA. The unique Twin Country Educational Program for the PGDM students is offered in Singapore for four weeks. This program provides an opportunity to the institute's students to be taught by some of the best and highly experienced professors drawn from top universities of Singapore viz. NUS, SMU and NTU. The program also provides students with a global corporate environment which is crucial to operate in a global corporate environment.
In order to prepare students in their respective disciplines IBA maintains a judicial mix of academicians and industry practitioners among faculty. The institute evaluates education background, research orientation and industry experience while hiring faculty members. Almost 50 percent of the faculty are PhD holders with industry experience. The Chairman explains that research is a continuous process at IBA and to uphold the practice, faculty members consistently undertake research projects and publish papers in journals of repute.
With the existing methodologies in place and elaborate corporate exposure, the 2013 - 15 batch of Indus Business Academy has achieved 100 percent placement with positions in companies such as ICICI securities, Reliance Communication and Deloitte. The highest package of the batch was a sterling Rs. 12 lakhs and over 100 organizations participated in the campus drive. Indus Business Academy with its progressive methodology of business education and global alliances is a great place for any B-school aspirant to pursue their management education.
