Education sector all over the world is going through a seismic change due to COVID19 pandemic. Education Sector in general and Maritime Training in specific was completely shaken up due to lockdown due to pandemic. HIMT College is a pioneering educational institution that has made a seamless transition from Offline to Online with the active participation of committed faculty as early as March 2020, within a few days of lock down being implemented. Founded in 1998, HIMT proudly took the status of being the largest Post Sea Centre in India, the only one of its kind, conducting over 50+ Directorate General Of Shipping (India) approved Maritime Courses, including all Modular, Simulator, Competency and Refresher courses under STCW. HIMT Group has also signed MOU with Govt of India in taking Maritime training to all parts of India and also abroad to the benefit of maritime fraternity.

Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training (HIMT) - Abode of Excellence in Maritime Training for the past 23 years ­ from Pre-sea training to Extra-First Class - One Stop destination for all Maritime Courses in India. HIMT Group also conducts 10 UK MCA approved courses and also numerous Company Specific Value-added courses for individual Shipping Companies. HIMT College has a wide range of Marine Engineering courses to choose from. BTech (Marine Engineering) ­ 4 years and BTech Marine Engineering (Lateral Entry) ­ 3 years course apart from Graduate Marine Engineer course (1 Year) and Electro Technical Course (4 Months). Vast workshop & laboratory with well-equipped instruments and equipment gives a real hands-on training to budding seafarers.

HIMT College has dedicated area for Applied Mechanical Workshop, Basic Skill Workshop, Seamanship Lab, Electrical Lab and Fluid Mechanics Lab. HIMT College also has a full-fledged Ship in Campus, where training is imparted in operating marine machinery in situation similar to a real ship. HIMT College is also equipped with Engine Room Simulator where the cadets are trained to operate various marine machinery and their skills sharpened in different conditions of operations. Lastly ­ the dedicated engineering faculty in HIMT College are all rich in experience with their many years at sea, thus helping in imparting real life experiences are passed on to the young marine engineers. The institute also acknowledges the fact that the main pain point in the Indian education sector is producing employable candidates who can apply the knowledge gained in real life scenarios to solve existing problems. We conduct courses for Enclosed Space Entry, Specialized training for Tr ETO cadets, Workshop skill development program for Engineering cadets. While talking more about the extra-curricular activities of their students and the future plans of the institute, Capt Anand Subramanian adds, "HIMT College cadets are encouraged to actively participate in extracurricular activities to showcase their skills in all areas of their interest. Many do get laurels to the College by winning prizes. HIMT College Cadets have participated in "Azadi Ka Amrut Mahostava" competitions organized by Ministry of Shipping / MMD Chennai. They have also participated in many inter college extracurricular activities too. Our college cadets have even hosted inter college fest ­ Technovision 2021 ­ where Maritime cadets from 10 other colleges across India participated. This was completely conceptualized, planned and hosted by the cadets of HIMT College. Future is indeed very interesting and challenging for Maritime Training. COVID19 has propelled Maritime training in an ecosystem never before tried ­ Online Platform as well as physical training. Online training has shrunk the distances and it has made experienced and highly qualified faculty / instructors accessible to all cadets irrespective of their location. HIMT College is all geared up to make best use of this synergy to ensure future maritime trainees get the best training before heading out to sea".

Capt. Anand Subramanian joined sea in 1995 as a Deck cadet with Wilhelmsen Ship Management. He completed his cadetship and became an officer in 1998. He has sailed on various kinds of ships and went on to become Master in 2007. He joined HIMT in 2018 after 23 years at sea.
