Data Matters
Recently, I was stuck in a traffic block for about 15 minutes in front of a Toyota car showroom. When I came out of the traffic, Google sent a notification asking me to rate my experience of visiting Toyota showroom on that road. It may sound bizarre. However, a combination data that informs about the amount of time I spent in a particular location matters to many businesses. Considering me as their potential customer, they can lure me to buy their products by bombarding my social media pages with hyper-customized advertisements. Today, every data matters as we live in an age of big data -and businesses need ways to go through it, to figure out which combinations of data count - and which ones do not.
While, organizations are collecting data from various resources available, many of them face an acute shortage of workforce who can use data effectively to generate meaningful business insights. Recruiting and retaining excellent business analysts have become a major challenge among senior leadership across all sectors. A recent study on this sector puts India as the second biggest analytics jobs hub after the US with nearly 90, 000 vacancies. High demand means higher salaries and a variety of options. The median annual salary for analytics roles is Rs. 10.8 lakhs, with a majority (27 percent) belonging to Rs. 6 lakh to Rs. 10 lakh range. A graduate with skills in Business Analytics can work at multinational corporations, start their own businesses, work in banks or FinTech, web-based businesses, retail, food, media and marketing companies.
Responding to the urgent need of trained business analysts in the country, many institutes have started offering various Business Analytics programmes to put students at the forefront of this growing field.
