According to recent reports published by leading News Papers, majority of the graduates are 'unemployable' in India. Considering the two most highly aspired courses - Engineering and MBA, less than 15 percent of the Engineering graduates are reported to be ?Employable? and less than 25 percent in case of MBAs.

The key factors influencing Employability are: The Course Curriculum, Mode of Learning, Quality of Teaching, Learning Material / Tools, Home and Campus Environment and Stake-Holder Communication. The major stakeholders for a student through his Campus are: Teaching Faculties, College Management, Alumni, Industry, Family and Friends.

An Institute/University, which is able to leverage synergy by channelizing communication and engagement among these major stakeholders, are the one's who are branded as ?successful?. The Bottom line for such select top-notch Institutes is always 'Job Placement' of their students, which they are able to manage really well because of their excellent Educational offerings as their Top line.

Whether a Candidate is aspiring to get into Private or Government sector or is passionate about becoming an Entrepreneur; the Industry Expectations from a Candidate can be listed mainly as: Subject Matter Knowledge, Communication, Team Work, Professional Attitude and Awareness on topics of National & International Importance.

Be it Analytics, IT, core Engineering or any other sector / function; companies hire candidates mainly for their ?Attitude? and the Industry expectation with regard to Technical competence is generally not too demanding in case of fresh Graduates. A candidate, who is strong with fundamentals and has a decent understanding of the relevant technology, and is aware of the major happenings in the world, will make it through, provided the attitude is professional.

Though there has been a noticeable improvement in the last decade with regard to our Education system and the resultant Employability of our fresh Graduates, there is still thousands of miles to be covered and there are no short-cuts in this Silk Route towards Human Resource Development (HRD).

There have been many insightful reports about the various Public-Private partnerships in the Education space. The bottom-up approach of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to catalyze the change right from the grass root level and in regions such as North-East is quite encouraging. However, for Candidates who are looking to be gainfully employed, one thing which is surely under their control is 'Self-Development'. As mentioned earlier, companies hire Candidates mainly for their Attitude.
