AKI's Poona College of Arts, Science and Commerce was founded in the year 1970 by the Anjuman Khairul Islam (A.K.I.) Mumbai. The institute is affiliated to the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) at the Junior College level and to the Savitribai Phule Pune University at the Senior College level. In a period of 44 years, the institute has expanded with varied subject verticals such as Electronics, Computer Science, Organic Chemistry, Zoology, English, Economics, Urdu and Commerce.

They boast of having research centers in Commerce, Chemistry & Economics with expert faculty members for research. The institute is the first college in Pune to be selected by the UGC for the introduction of Computer Maintenance course at the degree level as a part of the UGC program "Vocationalization of First Degree Education" from the academic year 1994 -95. The institute has graduated 6500 students so far due to its modern infrastructural facilities and strong faculty members. Ample amount of emphasis is put on a dynamic learning methodology. Academics, which comprises both of theory and practical is complimented with extra-curricular activities. Stress is laid on character building and all round development of the student's personality and is encouraged to take active part in sports.
