Animation: P.A. Inamdar College of Visual Effects, Design & Art
A career in animation is a space where people bring their passion and enjoy as they go forward. Unlike older days, Indian animation industry is growing with the whooping rate of 30 percent per year. According to FICCI-KPMG report, India's animation industry generated revenue of Rs.51.1 billion in 2015. Big Indian companies like Reliance Media works, UTV, Sony Pictures, Yashraj Productions, Dharma Productions and many others have also entered in the animation and visual effects field.
However, it is not an easy task for aspiring candidates to mark their presence in the animation industry. There is a long adventurous path for transforming passion to a successful career. The first step in achieving a career success is the creation of basic foundation. Hence, Prof. Rishi Acharya, Principal of P.A. Inamdar College of Visual Effects, Design & Art, is very particular about making the students clear with the basics. The college uses a spiral curriculum for the students wherein every upcoming lesson has its roots in previous ones. "We strongly believe that software or technology comes and goes, but foundation elements remain same all the time and we build the creative thoughts in each student by injecting the basics of animation," says Prof. Aacharya. Along with the spiral curriculum, the institute's program also includes intensive training on fundamentals of Art and Animation. They believe in 'learning by doing' and thus try to build an artist from each student through different activities with the regular course. Other than training in the basics, the institute also focuses in the Neuro Linguistic Programming to make optimum use of their creativity. "The most vibrant feather in the cap is our Degree Program in Media Graphics and Animation (B.Sc. MGA), which is a university affiliated bachelor degree with a special certificate in Fine Arts for students," adds Prof. Aacharya.
Prof. Acharya proudly claims his faculty to be the reason behind the success of the institute. The institute has a team of working professionals who bring their personal experience and insights to students and enable them to meet the workforce needs in employment fields. "The faculty members of our college are well qualified and they all have degrees and well known certifications from industries. Many of them carry Bachelor's of Fine Art from JJ School of Art, Mumbai and certifications from industry giants like Autodesk or Adobe. In addition to that, the interaction of new Industry experts every month makes our student aware with the updates of Industry," claims Prof. Acharya. Other than the faculty members, the institute also invites icons of media and animation industry as guest mentors to provide the best learning experience to the students.
While, passion is always well-supported by inspiration, the institute encourages the students to watch vfx and animation movies time to time to inspire them with the current works done by artists and animators worldwide. "In 2010, when I started heading this institute, I remembered the struggles, which I had faced to get into animation field. The tough time started from the search for a right place of learning and in those times there was a lack of degree courses in animation and media arena and now I feel it was the best decision in my life," adds Prof. Acharya. His inspirations from the institutions like NID, JJ School and FTII made him a successful professional in the field of animation. From the day of establishment, the institute provides the best training in animation and currently the college has got ISO 9001-2008 certificate for quality management. "Even though it was just seven students in first year of establishment, we have maintained standardized training and also provided decent placements for eligible students. I always believe that there is no substitute for quality," says Prof. Acharya. The institute also involves the participation of students in major animation and media events in the country.
"This year the college has also selected for the membership of Computer Society of India," adds Prof. Aacharya.
"From this year, we have also started online training division where students can avail our lectures from anywhere in the world," says Prof. Aacharya. Due to university constraints and quality being the major focus of the management, the institute admits only 60 students every year in their onsite courses and for the online programs, they takes 25 students in one batch. The admissions are open from March to August each year and students after completing their 10+2 from any stream (Arts/Science/Commerce) can apply for the course. The college provides excellent residential facilities in campus for girls and boys in separate hostels.
"We are heavily investing our capital and human resource to come up with more number of online courses along with excellent placement opportunities for students worldwide. With all these continuous efforts, we are working towards to become the most sought after Media and Animation College in Asia," claims Prof. Acharya.
