A New Paradigm in Tech-Enabled Learning

J K Sinha
Who would had have thought of taking online lectures on YouTube, or E-notes on education portals when all the students used to spend day and night sitting in the libraries making notes from hundreds of books for just one particular topic. Looking up for colleges located in your own city was a task itself. Today one can do this without even stepping out of the bed. And this is not confined to your own city anymore!

All of such information is a just click away! Ever since internet came into existence, it has become an indispensable part of our lives. With the integration of technology, Internet is aiding education making it easier for every student to learn! Today the major trend creating the current confluence is technology and its impact on education. This is not only helping the students but also involving the teachers into designing powerful learning environments.

Due to unavoidable circumstances students tend to miss out on lectures; here technology plays its part. A new generation of learners is calling for new ways to learn and is demanding uninterrupted educational access. There has been a literal explosion of distance education opportunities. Combining this with next generation technology-enabled learning environments, one has nothing short of a modern learning renaissance brewing. Welcome to the new paradigm of unconstrained learning!!

Nowadays tech-enabled learning is one of the most preferred methods. Printed notes have been supplemented by virtual ones. Online classes, live lectures, chat rooms are board of progress to follow the students' success. This pattern of teaching will allow them to become more self-directed in the learning process.

There are now ways to help kids suffering from autism and other hearing and speech disorders to learn, talk and spell. Using tablets, robots and ipads all such hardships seem to be worked out.

Mobile learning is the most recent avatar of modern education as smart phones are now commonplace. A large number of mobile applications have already become popular means of education because of their innovative take on traditional learning methods. Even sharing study material via various applications is possible now. The rapid and widespread adoption of these technological innovations has completely changed the way we conduct our daily lives.

As technology is helping to change education in a positive way, those concerned with education, such as policymakers, researchers, managers, teachers, and learning technologists, want to understand learning in this evolving technological context and to think about how education might be affected as a result. The role of teachers will transform as they integrate technology tools in their teaching. They will become facilitators of learning in a more collaborative manner and as team players. They will experiment more to get over their fear of technology. Teachers will use technology as an enabler and productivity. This will help them shift their approach and their perspective, as education gets more customized and adaptive. This will also make space for creativity for teachers in planning lessons, assessments, refutation and discussion of concepts. This will redefine teaching as a profession.

These dynamic educational platforms are decidedly more student-centred, enabling customized delivery of content and allowing them to take control of how they engage with a subject and to brainstorm and implement solutions to pressing local and global problems.

Technology has also become the mediation for Distance Education following the evolution of the communication technologies. It serves as a vehicle through which the course is conducted. The students' social interaction in the context of the online course forms the foundation of the learning community. Sharing information, interests, and resources are major parts of online education. These directions point to the renovation of teaching by formulating a wider conception of the educational process in order to meet the demand of the society.

It belongs to the educational technology the role to help in teaching and learning process in order to propitiate ways for using the technological resources in education. As a result, the educational technologies become an efficient tool during classes, and it is regarded as a fundamental element in education. For this reason, its usage and importance for teaching are related to aspects such as formation, involvement and responsibility of all the people involved in educational process.

The approach towards education has changed way beyond imagination. It is a major shift from the static educational content to more dynamic adaptive content. There is a growing sense that 'traditional education' is no more effective, and the locus of traditional education, the classroom, is perhaps one of the causes for this deficiency. Rather, it is informal education that can provide a basis for academic success.
