Job Roles and Responsibilities
Job profile is imperative because it outlines the scope of what your exact role is, and what your employer can or cannot ask you to do. Carefully read the job description, the flexibilities you will be offered by your employer, and the role you are applying for. Check if the job title is correct or not, and also check the added responsibilities that you can’t or don’t want to do.
Work Location
If you have agreed to work in a wide geographical area, such as in abroad, your employer will be in a much stronger position if you object to a move at a later stage. If working remotely from your home is an option and it is a criterion you have discussed earlier, then the contract should reflect this.
Salary, Bonuses, and other benefits
Ensure that your employment contract reflects the salary mentioned in your offer letter. Also check that there is provision of other benefits such as an improved pension, commuting facilities, equity or share options, private health compensations, bonuses and commission payments and if they are guaranteed or optional.
Working Hours and Flexibility
Don’t agree to a working pattern that you will object later and it’s best to negotiate a variation at the beginning of the agreement if necessary, including the opportunity of flexible working. For working hours, check for the availability of any shift patterns along with the requirement to work weekends or evenings. If you are required to do overtime, check if you will be paid for those working phases or not.
Sick Leaves and Holidays
Along with everything else, taking regular breaks is also necessary. Before signing the contract, check for the leaves you are entitled to along with the number of days and hours assigned as your holiday period. Evaluate whether there are any existing limitations around the holidays because some companies usually grant holidays between a particular time of the year. Also go through the terms around the payment options during the holidays and sick leaves. The company recruiting you will should not only pay you the specific wages pre-planned for your services but for other benefits as well, such as health insurance, which needs to be administered autonomously.
