Teachers in Kerala to Receive Hands-On Training in Generative AI
The Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) is embarking on a pioneering initiative to provide hands-on AI training to around 80,000 secondary school teachers in Kerala. Scheduled to commence on May 2, the three-day training aims to empower teachers from Classes 8 to 12 with AI expertise by August 2024.
The training program encompasses various aspects of AI, focusing on summarization techniques to simplify complex documents in PDFs, images, and videos, generating concise summaries while retaining crucial information, and even creating new content using AI tools. Teachers will also learn image generation techniques to create and edit subject-specific visuals, transforming them into cartoons or paintings and integrating text with the images.
Additionally, teachers will delve into Prompt Engineering and Machine Learning to formulate precise prompts essential for effectively utilizing AI tools and understanding its programming mechanisms. Data visualization techniques will be explored to create presentations, animations, tables, graphs, and charts tailored to specific requirements. The training will also cover AI techniques for assessment purposes, enabling teachers to design various question formats, including unit tests.
K. Anvar Sadath, Chief Executive Officer of KITE, highlighted that the program aims to equip teachers with the skills to identify potential risks associated with AI while fostering responsible AI usage. Furthermore, teachers will create their own avatars to understand the concept of deepfakes and gain insights into privacy concerns and algorithm bias.
Each training batch will comprise 25 teachers utilizing their laptops and mobile phones. G-Suite accounts created for teachers by KITE will ensure data privacy while using AI tools, eliminating the need for teachers to use their private email IDs and other credentials.
