Online Learning - Dos and Don'ts for Effective Learning

Compelled by the lockdown due to coronavirus, the schools and universities decided to stop conducting classes in the classrooms. But sticking to their daily routine of continuous learning, students are currently focusing on learning through online classes. Although they are denied from the company of their classmates and the typical classroom environment, the students are trying to give their best while learning from online portals. In this crucial period, some students also find it very much difficult to focus on their studies while learning from online due to various unwanted distractions.

This article focuses on some Dos and Don’ts which are essential for the students to keep in mind while learning.

Dos

  • Prepare a Time Table

While studying in a classroom, following a strict timetable is mandatory. The students need to apply the same condition while online learning and prepare a time table as per their scheduled online classes. They should try to get ready before the commencement of classes so that they can carry on learning effectively till the classes are over.

  • Select a Specific Place for Studying

Students should select a particular spot in the house with proper lighting and easy wifi access. Most students often change their sitting arrangements as per their mood which is not advisable. Selecting a particular space for studying helps the students to easily concentrate on their studies without getting disturbed by anyone or anything.

  • Avoid Interactions during the Ongoing Classes

Students should keep in mind to not divert their attention such as talking to a friend or a family member or attending a call during a live study session. Take the e-learning classes as seriously as the regular classroom classes. The teachers cannot keep an eye on each student individually. Hence, the students must ensure a disciplined learning environment.

  • Take Notes during the Classes

During the online classes, it is advisable for the students to not just sit idly but to take notes. This will help the students to remain prepared for the next day’s classes. Although the teachers cannot keep track of the students who are not taking notes or not, it is for the betterment of the students only.

  • Take Break between the Classes

As the online classes are conducted via mobile or laptop screens students can experience a lot of physical and mental stress due to continuously staring to screen. This might lead to headache or eyesight problems at a young age. Students should take small intervals in between the classes to relax.

Don’ts

  • Try Not to Miss the Classes

Unless it is necessary, students should try not to avoid online classes. As it is not possible for the teachers to take attendance of students every day and students can now easily go for proxy, many students miss their classes deliberately.

  • Don’t Be Indiscipline

Now a days many videos are surfacing in social media in which the young students are intentionally harassing and mimicking the teachers during online classes. These types of behaviors give a wrong message to society and students should refrain from such kind of conduct.

  • Don’t Hesitate to Ask Doubts

Students should not shy away from asking doubts during each session as it is impossible for the teachers to keep track of individual students. To ensure the learning flow without any hindrances, students should clarify their doubts at the earliest.

  • Don’t Plagiarize Assignments

Many students often go for plagiarism of assignments as there is no one to strictly supervise them. This type of malpractice only hampers the future of the students as they lose the chance of learning something genuinely.

  • Maintain an Appropriate Dress Code

Although the students are staying in their homes, many institutions have issued orders to stay in appropriate uniforms during the online classes. Even if there no orders issued on behalf of schools or universities, students should maintain proper decorum and try to remain in proper and formal attires during the classes.

The changes incorporated into educational standards amidst the lockdown are temporary only. As the situation will normalize the classroom studies will resume and so will the unperturbed flow of education. But till then the educational institutes and students have to cooperate and contribute together for a better and promising future.
