IIT Madras unveils new PG Diploma for professionals & fresh graduates

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has launched a new series of Postgraduate Diploma (PG Diploma) courses to equip fresh graduates and industry professionals with modern, industry-specific technical skills. The courses are now accepting applications until May 2025. The courses will be offered through a national-level entrance examination on July 13, 2025.

These courses cover a wide range of highly demanded specializations such as Aerospace Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Process Safety.

Classes are expected to start in August or September 2025. The programs are structured to accommodate flexible learning, with live online classes during evenings or weekends, in addition to recorded lectures. This structure allows students to work or carry out internships while upgrading their education. Interim tests proctored remotely and end-of-program tests at centers spread throughout India maintain stringent academic quality. Some select courses also have the provision of attending lab sessions at the campus of IIT Madras.

Emphasizing the reason behind such a move, Prof. Vignesh Muthuvijayan, Associate Chair, Centre for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE), IIT Madras, shared that the courses are designed to address the increasing need for flexible and industry-focused education. Students also have the option to upgrade to a web-enabled MTech degree.
