IIT Guwahati, AIIMS Guwahati to Team Up for Biomedical Engineering Course
IIT Guwahati, together with AIIMS Guwahati, is launching an integrated four-year Bachelor of Science (BS) programme in Biomedical Science and Engineering. This paradigm shift is being launched by the Jyoti and Bhupat Mehta School of Health Sciences and Technology at IIT Guwahati. The programme is also being developed collaboratively with the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education & Research (NIPER), Guwahati, and this is a giant step forward in inter-disciplinary teaching and research.
Written at the intersection of medical science, pharmacology, and engineering, the program is created to develop a new generation of biomedical engineers that can drive groundbreaking changes in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries. Incorporating a number of fields of science and technology, the curriculum endows students with the skill and knowledge needed to develop creative solutions to problematic medical issues.
The curriculum will be made to emphasize emerging technologies such as genomics, artificial intelligence, 3D printing, and nanotechnology. Through this cutting-edge and innovative approach, students will be empowered to become biomedical engineers and shape the evolving face of global healthcare.
The application procedure for the programme will be launched on April 25 and remain open for one month. Applications are invited from students who passed Class 12 (or equivalent) in the year 2024 or 2025 with a minimum aggregate of 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology. Students who have passed the IISER Aptitude Test 2025 can also apply.
