SSVPS's Bapusaheb Shivajirao Deore College of Engineering: A Replica of Excellence
By Prof. Hitendra D. Patil, Principal
Established in 1983 under the guidance of Hon. Dajisaheb Rohidasji Patil, the then Minister of Maharashtra state, Bapusaheb Shivajirao Deore College of Engineering was initiated by Shri Shivaji Vidya Prasarak Sanstha.
Holding the legacy of 33 years in technical education, the institution's source of inspiration is its Founder Chairman, Late Shri. Bapusaheb Shivaji Raimal Deore. The purpose that instigated commencing the institution was to provide technical education to the aspiring and eligible candidates of the state and the region.
With an unequivocal emphasis on the 360-degree approach for developing students on the variety of dimensions, the institution is embodied with five engineering departments' viz. Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electronics & Tele Communication Engineering along with a Department of Management Studies. "To produce multi-skilled graduates who are able to spearhead nation-building in the Information Age, we have adopted Outcome-Based Education (OBE) in our course modules, which is now a worldwide standard for engineering education," shares Prof. Hitendra D. Patil, Principal, Bapusaheb Shivajirao Deore College of Engineering.
Considered as a giant leap forward to improve technical education in India and help Indian Engineers compete with their global counterparts, OBE aids the students of the institution to engage in lifelong learning, career enhancement and adjust to changing professional and societal needs. In order to strengthen adaptability and in view of holistic development, the students are exposed to facilities like Language Laboratory for English Communication improvement, Soft Skills training in each semester from a leading agency, Gymnasium for Physical Health, around the clock reading room and study room facility including ramps for physically challenged students.
Prof. Patil says, "We ensure that the students are aware of the corporate world and its culture through interactive sessions and thereby render them required Soft skill and communication training through experts to improve and make them feel at ease from the first day of work." Given this, the institution has collaborated with technical training providers like Pelha-Jobs, Indo German Tool Room and so on to train students on latest technologies such as Catia, Creo, Android, IoT, Java and CNC.
"There is a need to advance the global capacity for engineering education research to better leverage engineering education development and, thus, accelerate engineering education innovation," opines Prof. Patil. The objectives of the institution are specially designed for research activities where at the undergraduate level the institution offers interdisciplinary electives for exploring the possible directions in multi-disciplinary projects and at postgraduate level, the primary focus is on recent research trends for projects and potential contributions.
Some of the current research opportunities undergoing in the institution are solar air heating, hemispherical solar water heaters, Solar disinfector, hemispherical foldable solar air heater, just to name a few. "As we have moved our affiliation with State Technological University from the current academic year, we have planned to associate with reputed universities and institutes for promoting a better research culture in the campus," pinpoints Prof. Patil.
The research activities henceforth, aid the students to think and inflame them to come up with offbeat ideas. This idea often takes the shapes of a successful business model in which the Entrepreneurship Development Program Cell of the institution plays a significant role by organizing various programs. The cell has also signed an MoU with LaghuUdyog Bharti and Dhule Unit to arrange seminars and training to boost the Entrepreneur activities.
"With the ever-growing number of engineering graduates, it is essential to groom students in a way where they can stand out from their competitors," states Prof. Patil. In the pursuit of producing unique graduates, the institution conducts several pre-placement activities and also provides the students with relevant information about the company, products, job description and so on.
Moreover, being a TCS Accredited Institute, TCS does campus recruitment, skill-based contest and webinars on latest technologies in the institution campus. "We are in-process of signing MoU with
Bharat Wire ropes for associating in industrial problem solving, research and development & training and are also in talks with Reliance Jio for having technical sessions and industrial visits for students," mentions Prof. Patil.
