The medical and dental institute derived its name from Maulana Abul Kalam Azad who was the first Union Minister of education and scientific research of independent India. Considering the dental demands of the people of Delhi, Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences (MAIDS) began, as a small department of dentistry under Maulana Azad Medical College and got
associated with Lok Nayak Hospital in the 1960s. And thus to keep up with the requirements, the institution has nine specialty departments with a provision for dental chair unit system with all the requisite equipments for pre-clinical dental training & basic science as recommended by the Dental Council of India. The institute is the first dental college in the country to be accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Health Care Providers (NABH). The institute has been declared as a "Center of Excellence" and is rapidly unfolding its various facets as it now boasts of a state of the art operation theatre, emergency and inpatient services.
With global state of the art facilities and a dedicated team of professionals, the institute is one of the pioneers in oral health care delivery to the community and the country. Along with its various academic pursuits, the institute has been extremely proactive in spreading mass awareness about oral health care. Its further growth shall be possible due to its assets-the faculty, students, staff and infrastructure.
