Imparting Industry-Centric Education

While talking more about the inception ideology and uniqueness of Horizon Campus, Ajitha Wanasinghe who is the CEO of the institute adds, "We were established in 2009 after understanding the prevalent gaps in the country's higher education sector. We ventured into higher education as we wanted to offer our students who joined our schools a continuation of their higher education with our college. Our vision is to be a centre of excellence that offers a truly inspired learning experience to the students in a holistic and student-friendly environment and our mission is to be the most preferred residential campus in the country. We are a non-state university approved by the Ministry of Higher Education, SL and is recognized by the University Grants Commission, SL. We are also listed in the Association of Common Wealth Universities and the American Council of Education. We have a sprawling 35-acre campus space that has all the necessary infrastructural amenities for our students to hone their skills. We have collaborations with the University of London, Birmingham City University, Minnesota University, and UBT, to name a few. In the near future we will also be partnering with three other Australian universities to ensure that our students get the best possible learning experience".

The Campus is committed to providing a planned program of career education, information and guidance for all its undergraduates through Career Guidance Unit (CGU) from the entrance until they are graduated. This places a duty on CGU of the Campus to offer undergraduates access to careers, education, information and guidance in three identified areas of a) Career guidance and 'soft skills' development, b) Industrial placement program and c) Promotion of ethnic and social cohesion and harmony in the Campus. The policy of CGU is intended to bring together all guidance/regulation and information regarding career guidance activities of the Horizon Campus and thus, CGU policy document is a clearly written, accessible document on planning and undertaking of career guidance activities. And through this proper guidance, Horizon Campus ensures that their students not only get a head-start in their professional career but they are also capable of making a name for themselves in their respective industries.

Striving for the Holistic Development

The quality of faculty members has a massive say when it comes to determining the quality of education imparted at an educational institution. Adding more about their faculty members and how they ensure the optimal development of their students, Ajitha says, "Our faculty members have ample industry exposure and this not only allows them to equip the students with the needed skills required to thrive in the modern world but also helps them to impart industry-centric education to the students. This supports us to bridge the industry-academia gap and make our students more employable. We ensure that the needs of each individual student is taken care of in the best possible manner. Thus, we are able to understand the students deeply which allow us to guide them in such a way that they realize their true potential. Apart from this, we have made sure that we create the perfect learning environment for our students to thrive".

Catering to the international students, Horizon Campus makes sure that the international students feel right at home at their campus and they have the necessary resources including top of the line sports facilities to ensure that both their local and foreign students gain holistic development. Horizon Campus also provides special mentors to the international students who can take care of their needs and help them with their transition to life in a new country.

The college has a student council that can address the issues faced by the students promptly and this is just some of the many new and innovative methods Horizon Campus has introduced to ensure the seamless integration of international students to their campus. Also, to become a true pioneer of international higher education in Sri Lanka, Horizon Campus regularly takes part in various global research events and promote the incorporation of experiential and research-oriented learning. All this has helped the students of Horizon Campus to become critical thinkers and develop into inspired learners who can have a positive impact on the society.
