Desh Bhagat University: Academy Of Excellence In Aeronautical Engineering
By Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor
The Aeronautics future of India looks brighter than whats prior foreseen. It's welcoming abundant end credits from Government agencies like Indian Air Force (IAF), Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), alongside Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), National Aerospace Laboratory (NAL) to win the next big bet for Indian aerospace development. There is a huge need for gal-lant participation from India to make the next move and Desh Bhagat University (DBU) is prepping vigilant engineers to take the industry by storm.
Desh Bhagat University is one of the top-notch Universities, approved under UGC Section 2(f) & 12 B, NAAC accredited, Member of AIU, offering technology education in the latest fields like Aeronautical Engineering under the guidance of Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor of the University. The University is having 14 Faculties and 31 Departments running programs in Diploma, UG, PG and Doctorate in the discipline of Ayurveda, Agriculture, Pharmacy, Nursing, Engineer-ing, Allied Health Science, Law, Education Computer Science, Dental Science, Library Science, Design and Computer Science. The location and faculty of this university make it ideally suited for capitalizing on the modern aerospace industry. The University campus is perfectly distanced from Chandigarh, Patiala and Pinjore Airfields to draw practical inspiration from the air-base itself and it is among the first state private university to raise NCC Air Wing Senior Division in Punjab.
It's difficult to develop a curriculum for such a niche domain without professional help, Dr. Pramod Mandal, HOD, Department of Aeronautical Engineering, con-firmed the belief. Dr. Pramod Mandal holds 20 years of experience in the Indian Air Force and later in 2013, he joined DBU to drive the organisation to its excellence in the Aerospace domain. Dr Pramod Mandal avers with pride, "The reason for establishing the Aerospace department for DBU is to emerge as the country's best educator by practicing innovation, patronizing research in this Aero-nautical Engineering sector", added Dr. Sandeep Singh, President Desh Bhagat University.
Gripping the imperative pillars of value-based education, DBU meets every touch point with prominence. The institute harbours the best state-of-the-art facility for the to-be-engineers to nurture their innate skills and infrastructure that encourages students to reinvent the class-room-learnt concepts in real time. It has ICT-enbled lecture delivery halls to support an effective pedagogy in theoretical learning. Alongside this, it also provides NPTEL video lec-tures and online courses based on the subjects covered under the roof.
The Aerospace Engineering Department of DBU has the most evolved Aerodynamics labs equipped with subsonic wind tunnels for experiments, Aircraft Jet and Piston Engines for propulsion, Aircraft Avionic Instruments and it also have Fluid mechanics lab, strength of materials lab, Thermodynamics lab, heat laboratories lab, and heat transfer labs to complete the practical requirements for the curriculum. "We have an in-house facility and practical application for the students and apart from that, we are also having miniature aircrafts and simulators to shell-out flying training classes for the students", added Dr. Pramod.
Academics, Employability, Diversity, Ethics, and Service make up the DBU mission. Alongside in-house training, the department of Aeronautics Engineering of DBU is partnered with the Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI). In collaboration with AeSI it conducts multiple seminars and expos where students can interact with eminent persons involved in Aeronautical /Aerospace Science and Technology in India and get the current overview of industry standings. Industrial training, both short-term and long-term, for the DBU students at Indian Air Force, DRDO, NAL and Air India also plays a crucial part in preparing the students who are target-ing the private segment of the international market.
Other than formal training the students are also encouraged to join forces with the University's active Air NCC groups which gives a wider approach to disciplines, mostly for the aspirants who is interested in joining Indian Air Force. For community engagement, National Service Scheme (NSS) is preeminent for the students.
Apart from academics and character developments, DBU has dedicated professionals for soft-skill development, personality development programs and IT skills for the students. It also engage the students in activities where they can exhibit their knowledge with crude asthetics. It also has a well established placement cells to conduct placement drives for the students periodically to bag the best jobs in the booming aeronautic/aerospace industries like Air India, Indigo Air-line, Air Force, HCL and more.
Aerospace Engineering is a cross functional domain that broadly covers airspace development, Aircraft design, Air-craft Navigation Technologies, and aerodrome planning. Considering the expounding growth in India's civil aviation sector by 2030, job opportunities are about to multiply so will the demand for the aerospace engineers. Dr. Zora SinghChancellor, Desh Bhagat University concluded that, "In the near future we are about to diversify our aviation courses with Drone Manufacture and Pilot Training, Cabin Crew Training, MBA in Airlines and Hospitality and Airport Ground Staff Training to make DBU the next big name in the Aeronautics Training in India".
