British University Vietnam (BUV): Ensuring Every Student Has Success Story To Share With Quality International Learning

By Professor Dr. Raymond Gordon, President
The journey to start British University Vietnam (BUV) started with an idea to deliver a British higher education learning environment in Vietnam. "Our aim is to create graduates that represent a new generation of talented discoverers, explorers, and creative thinkers educated, trained, and prepared to thrive in 4IR fields of work and life," says Prof. Dr. Raymond Daniel Gordon, President of British University of Vietnam (BUV). Founded in 2009, British University Vietnam (BUV) is the first and only international university in Vietnam to award direct degrees from the prestigious University of London. BUV's mission is to deliver, in Vietnam, certified British higher education degrees and the highest quality international learning environment possible. The team at BUV works closely with British Embassy and Vietnam Government to ensure the best facilities for students to be educated at a global level.

BUV has four schools that provide teaching for 12 undergraduate and postgraduate degrees for University of London and Staffordshire University degrees. The University also has extensive skills-based training courses to ensure that students stand out of the crowd, through its first-year experience program as well as careers seminars. At BUV, it is compulsory for students, from their first year, to enroll in internships so they get early exposure to the global work-life economy. The Student Experience Department at the university provides employment and internship advice, career consultation with students about their interests and passions in order to find out what they are good at and what their strengths are.

As for the faculty at BUV, 100 percent of the teachers are internationally recognized with experience from prestigious universities. They have various years of practical work experience and a deep understanding of the British education system. Students can continue interaction with the faculty after graduation to make sure that BUV supports their career development and fasten the path to success. "We maintain excellent and supportive relationships with many reputable organizations across Vietnam and throughout the SEA region as well as the UK," adds Prof. Dr. Raymond. To ensure that every student from BUV has a successful career post-graduation, BUV partners with leading national and international business organizations to foster mutually beneficial partnerships that provide students and alumni a diverse and dynamic career path.

The university also offers scholarship funds to help the students financially. BUV officially launched a VND 40 billion scholarship fund, with the "œThe British Ambassador's scholarship". "We also started the British University Vietnam (BUV) scholarship fund in 2018 with the goal of giving students the opportunity to study UK undergraduate and graduate programs in an international standard educational environment in the country's capital," says Prof. Dr. Raymond. After more than two years of effective operation, with an aim to improve and increase access to high-quality education, BUV has officially raised the fund's value from 40 billion VND (2019) to 53 billion VND with hundreds of scholarships and financial aid made available for the students to avail.

Recently, BUV invested in a new campus with a total investment of $25 million for the first phase and $70 million when completed in Ecopark, Hung Yen. The new campus, which came into operation in 2018, provides an international-standard facility that is architecturally beautiful with an iconic design, indicative of 4IR, and with embedded learning technology. Going forward, BUV plans to start a School of Social Sciences and open a number of centers in the Vietnam region to offer PG programs that will help students get placed globally. BUV continually works to help the Vietnamese government to fill the skills gap and give students the opportunity to explore internationally and branch out in other cities.
