University of Strathclyde Launches MSc in Statistics & Data Science

A new conversion course to enter the expanding field of data science and applied statistics has been started at the University of Strathclyde. This MSc in Statistics and Data Science begins in September 2025 and is intended for applicants with broad backgrounds in a variety of disciplines who are eager to make the transition into the data-science field, whatever their background might be.

The program seeks candidates capable of data analysis, machine learning, big data processing, predictive modelling, and statistical software like R and Python, as noted in the press release. To be eligible for this program, the candidate must have at least a second-class (2:2) Honours or equivalent international qualification. The fees for international candidates pursuing this program are £25,500 (nearly Rs 28,69,418) for the academic session 2025-26.

To support talented students and to commemorate the 850th anniversary of the city of Glasgow, the Faculty of Science also provides scholarships to all eligible postgraduate taught, self-funded, international (non-EU) fee-paying students who are joining any on-campus course in the Faculty of Science from September 2025.

These scholarships are worth £5,000 each, and they will be offset against tuition fee costs. There is no need to apply for this scholarship, as it will be awarded automatically. There will be a webinar to inform students more about this programme on May 6, starting at 14:00 BST, enabling students to discover more about studying the MSc in Statistics & Data Science at Strathclyde. This will include an introduction to the programmes on offer followed by a Q&A session where students can put questions to department staff and admissions team representatives.

Holders of the MSc in Statistics & Data Science can pursue careers as data scientists and applied statisticians, engaging in fields that depend on sophisticated analytics and data analysis.
