MHT CET 2020: SC Dismisses Plea Seeking Postponement of the Exam

The Supreme Court of India has reportedly dismissed a plea regarding the delay of MHT CET 2020. The justice bench headed by Ashok Bhushan and Subhas Reddy granted justice in favor of exam conduction, stating, “The court has already allowed the conduction of JEE and NEET exams. Now how can we stop exams in one state?” Advising to check orders issued in the previous case, the Supreme Court dismissed the pea seeking deferment of exams.

The Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant had earlier postponed the entrance exams conducted on behalf of State Common Entrance Exam Cell, concerning the various subjects of the Department of Higher Education and Technical Education. Terrified by the severity of deadly corona virus, many students and parents were demanding the cancellation of MHT CET exams. With more than five lakhs of students registered for appearing the exam, the conduction of exam following the norms of social distancing was the biggest concern for Maharashtra Govt.

However, the Commissioner of CET Cell Sandeep Kadam assured that the exam will be conducted online along with the advantage of not considering the JEE Main scores admissions into engineering. In an earlier notice issued on the official page of Maharashtra CET, it was stated that, “Due to global pandemic of corona virus, MHT-CET 2020 has been postponed till further orders from the State Common Entrance Exam Cell.” Minister Uday Samant also added that, “The commissioners had been issued with autonomous powers to conduct the examination. The CET Commissioner is conducting a survey on whether the CET Exam can be conducted at the divisional level.”

Every year the MHT CET exam is conducted for admissions into various under graduate and post-graduate professional courses. The new dates for exam are yet to be revealed. AAs per a report, many states such as Karnataka and Gujarat had already completed the conduction of CET exams successfully amidst the corona virus pandemic.
