IIT-Ropar partners with Shoolini University for interdisciplinary AI course

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Shoolini University. The partnership is focused on initiating a combined Minor Programme in Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The action occurs as numerous engineering aspirants nationwide are taking the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main Session 2, competing for spots in leading technical institutions.

According to the MoU, both institutions, in collaboration with the Agricultural and Water Technology Development Hub (AWaDH), a Technology Innovation Hub at IIT Ropar, will launch a 15-credit Minor Programme in "Artificial Intelligence + X."

The program is founded on a ‘Learning by Practice’ methodology and will receive joint certification from Shoolini University and IIT Ropar. Its goal is to provide students with AI skills specific to their primary fields like Agriculture, Biotechnology, Management, and others.

A vital aspect of the partnership is the creation of an advanced Cyber Physical System Laboratory (CPS Lab). This center will act as a base for practical research and education in AI, Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR-VR), Data Science, Robotics, and various other emerging technologies. The curriculum of the program, created with contributions from the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and edtech innovator Masai, is intended to align with industry standards to address changing workforce needs.

This collaboration highlights an increasing trend among Indian higher education institutions emphasizing interdisciplinary and practical learning approaches, particularly in response to the swiftly escalating need for AI professionals across various industries.
