IIT Roorkee and Mehta Family Foundation join hands to establish School of Data Science & AI

Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Roorkee has collaborated with Mehta Family Foundation, USA in order to start a new initiative for imparting education. The Institute has established Mehta Family School of Data Science as well as Artificial Intelligence (AI).  

IIT Roorkee's new school aims at developing the skilled workforce, especially in the areas of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. By offering Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral Programs, students would be given admissions as well as an opportunity to learn and grown in these new and developing fields.  

Mehta Family School of Data Science & Artificial Intelligence will welcome its first batch of students in September, 2022. The curriculum of various Programs will be aimed at providing dedicated training and certification in fields of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. The duration of programs would vary and details on the same are expected soon.  

IIT Roorkee announced about establishing this School of Data Science and AI on September 27, 2021. On the same day, a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU was signed between the Institute and Mehta Family Foundation. The event took place virtually and was presided by many stakeholders including Director of IIT Roorkee Prof. Ajit K. Chaturvedi and CEO of Mehta Family Foundation Rahul Mehta.  

Other people who attended the event were Prof. Vijay Raghavan who is the Principal Scientific Advisor to Government of India; Prof. Sandeep Verma, Secretary of Science and Engineering to Government of India and Dr. BVR Mohan Reddy who is the Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIT Roorkee.

IIT Roorkee and Mehta Family Foundation have also said that in order to make sure that this initiative is a success, several smaller steps will be taken. One such step would be the launch of the Foundation's student scholarships and faculty exchange programs. It would also aim at having projects that are centred around Make-in-India and aim at Atmanirbhar Bharat.
