GATE 2021: Exam Day Guidelines, Timings and More
The seven Indian Institutes of Technology, i.e., IIT Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) jointly conduct and administer the GATE exam. While the organizing institute in 2020 was IIT Delhi, the organizing institute for GATE 2021 is IIT Bomaby, which is responsible for end-to-end coordination amongst all the institute that administer. All the GATE exam-related operations are managed by the GATE office in IISc and IITs.
Important Details and Timings
- Computer based test will be conducted.
- The exam will be conducted on multiple days i.e., on February 5th, 6th, 7th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 2021. It will be conducted over two sessions on each exam day i.e., morning and afternoon.
- Timing for morning shift will be 9:30 AM -12:30 PM & for evening shift will be 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM.
- There are 27 subject papers and two new subjects have been introduced in GATE 2021.
- GATE 2021 test papers will be objective type comprising of these patterns, MCQ, MSQ, and NST Questions
- To appear GATE exam there is no age limit.

GATE 2021: Exam Day Guidelines
- Candidates are advised to reach 60 minutes prior to their exam centres for smooth and proper photo ID verification.
- Admit card is a mandatory document to be carried along with to appear for the GATE 2021 Exam, no candidate will be allowed to appear for the exam without GATE 2021 Admit card.
- Take the printout of the GATE 2021 Admit card on the A4 Size Sheet only.
- It is mandatory to carry one Original Photo ID along with GATE 2021 Admit Card.
- No electronic items like a watch, personal calculators, and so on, are not allowed in the examination hall.
- If any candidate is found with any prohibited item during the examination, then the candidate will be himself/herself responsible and disciplinary action will be taken against her.
- Avoid carrying any valuable items to the exam centres.
- Candidates can take their seats 45 minutes before the start of the exam so that they can read the instructions carefully
- Entry to the exam hall after 9:30 won’t be allowed.
- Candidates will be provided with virtual on-screen calculator so that they need bot bring their manual calculators to the exam hall.
- Rough sheets will be provided to the students by the management
Other Instructions
- Candidates must stand in queues and follow floor marks while entering or standing at the entrance gate.
- Any candidate with a body temperature above 99.4 degrees Fahrenheit will have to give an exam in the Covid Isolation area built within GATE 2021 Exam centres.
- Do not take the prohibited items, and items allowed in the exam hall are Masks, Gloves, Personal Hand Sanitiser, Pen, Admit Cards, Original PhotoID, Personal transparent water bottle
- Exit the GATE 2021 exam centre in an orderly manner.
- Leave the GATE 2021 admit card and rough pad used in the GATE Exam on the drop box,
- Maintain Social Distancing norms.
