Indian Institute of Creative Technologies to Launch in Mumbai for Animation
Central Government of India has sanctioned the establishment of Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) in Mumbai, to boost India’s animation and gaming industry. This will be first dedicated institute of India for Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR), with an investment of ₹391.15 crore.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, , announced that the institution will be established in the historic location of India’s film industry- The Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari (Film City), Goregaon. The institute aims to train professionals, and strengthen India’s global position in the creative technology centre. It will be a leading centre for innovations in creative technologies. The announcement was made during an interaction with envoys of foreign nation as part of the global outreach efforts for the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) to be held in Mumbai from May 1-4.
Designed to be a National Centre of Excellence, the institution will function like IIT of AVGC-XR. India owns more than 4000 studios and more than 100 of them produce high quality AVGC-XR content for full length feature films. This includes both Bollywood and Hollywood production houses.
The foundation of the IICT is expected to have a revolutionary impact on India’s entertainment and creative industries, which are positioned for significant growth. With the growing global requirement of high-quality AVGC-XR content, India is positioned to become a major centre for creative technologies. Through the IICT, India will not only meet domestic talent needs but also establish itself as a leading player in the international AVGC-XR space.
