The Vibrant Campus

Located at 1,100 meters above sea level with temperatures between 18 and 24 0C during summer midday, Vagamon in Kerala is always cool. Driving through murmuring tea and cardamom estates and attractive meadows, the journey to Vagamon is an extraordinary experience. The best business for this soil would be a tourist resort. However, the visionaries of DC Kizhakemuri foundation had a different view about this location. In 2002, they established, DC School of Management and Technology (DCSMAT), a complete residential campus B School at Vagamon. \\\"While creating the Business School of excellence, we wanted it to be in a place where students imbibe the most important lessons in management in a serene atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Vagamon was perfect for the purpose,\\\" says Dr. GopakumarVadassery, Director, DCSMAT.

The management established the campus at Vagamon, with top class infrastructure to support business academics. However, had the college did not have the name \\\'DC\\\' , it could have been a tough task to bring students to such a remote location. Started in 1974, DC Books is considered as one of the top five prestigious publishing houses in India. In Kerala, the book-publishing sector is almost a monopoly of DC Books. \\\"The name \\\'DC Books\\\' is a synonym of quality and wisdom for the people among Kerala. This helped us in attracting students during the initial stages,\\\" remembers Dr. Gopakumar. For DCSMAT, the challenge of attracting the students to a residential campus was only a minor obstacle. The inherited model of top IIMs and the high quality residential programs of the institute were already a topic of discussion in the higher education sector. In addition to it, the word of mouth from the students who successfully graduated from the institute worked well and soon the DC campus became one of the top destinations for students in Kerala as well as the other parts of the country. At present, DCSMAT has students from north India, Nepal and Bhutan along with cream of talent within the state.

Intellectual Capital

As the institution belongs to a prominent publishing house, it is no surprise that the institute has an ultramodern library. Located in the heart of campus, the library of DCSMAT is a complete resource of information with more than 35,000 books and subscribed journals. It also holds, more than three lakhs E-Books, in addition to digital library, which the management has been maintaining since last eight years. Apart from library, the IBM center of excellence is another factor, which helps students very extensively for acquiring competence in business analyst job as well as researches. DCSMAT is the first and only private management institution in the country where IBM started their centre of excellence. As a result, IBM conducts classes in the areas of Business analytics, System analysis and ERP for the students of MBA and PGDM. Along with that, the institute has aligned with SAP University for equipping students with the latest trends in the ERP market.

To support all these activities and guide students in the right path, DCSMAT has a very strong line up of faculties. More than 70 percentage of this team is PhD holders. However, sometimes the degrees earned would not help teachers while dealing with the postmodern concepts of management. Especially, teaching in a classroom where students are sitting in front of their own laptops, which has a high-speed Wi-Fi connection. To get an extra edge over these highly tech savvy students, the management depute their faculty to India\\\'s top management institutions like IIM - Ahmadabad, Indore and Bangalore for the Faculty development programs. \\\"We generally depute our faculty members to IIMs for Faculty Development Programs and currently five of our faculties are in IIM-A, undergoing the four and half months of FDP program,\\\" says Dr. Gopakumar.

With all the efforts from management as well as faculty members, DCSMAT is consistently achieving the golden mark of 100 percent in the placement every year. However, Dr. Gopakumar reveals that each and every student of DCSMAT is not employed after the graduation. He says, \\\"In every batch we will have students who opt for entrepreneurship but, our students have always tasted success when they chose employment. That is how we have 100 percentage placements in our campuses.\\\" With all sorts of people and variety of activities, the DCSMAT campuses at Vagamon and Trivandrum have only one description - They are vibrant always.

The Patron of All Initiatives

Dominic Chacko Kizhakemuri, popularly known as D. C. Kizhakemuri, was a well-known writer, activist, freedom fighter and book publisher from Kerala. He founded the book publishing company known as DC Books. He played a pivotal role in abolishing sales tax on books in the erstwhile state of Travancore. This move influenced Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to abolish sales tax on books across India. He was awarded Padma Bhushan in 1999, the year in which he passed away.

Multiple Campuses in Two Extreme Locations

At present, DCSMAT has two beautiful campuses at Kerala. While the Vagamon campus located in the midst of less populated tourist spot, the other one at Kinfra Film and Video Park, Trivandrum, is established with an easy access to city life. The Trivandrum campus is a great platform for students to interact with the Industry to catalyze their academics and professional development. The state-of-the-art infrastructure of KINFRA campus is inclusive of an open-air theatre, conference halls and guesthouses. Techno Park is just a walk able distance from the campus, where in the park have around 250 companies employing over 35,000 professionals.
